CDS Round One

I love an unassuming day at the track. Stumbling across all sorts of automotive odysseys is probably why I attend most events now, hoping to see something in real-life that I haven’t seen before. This Sentra for instance, when was I ever going to see one of these(rocking a chandelier my guy!) in person if I hadn’t dragged my ass out of bed and drove North-West to the small town of Varney. This is where Full Throttle Motor Speedway(what a name) resides and it also happened to be the venue for the first round of the 2024 Canadian Drift Series.

This isn’t a country-wide series from what I’m aware and is held within Ontario the majority of the time.

Eager to see some countryside and savour another 35c+ day, I arrived early enough in the hopes that I wouldn’t resemble a squashy after a few hours outside. The tone was set early seeing that Sentra and I had high expectations which were mostly met for the rest of the day.

Its great to see the love the GT86 chassis got in North America, mostly due to its incredible affordability compared to the price the car currently commands in Europe. It really seems to have brought a new generation of car enthusiast with it. This is great to see and its something which I really wish would happen in Ireland. That would surely tempt a couple of diesel lovers back onto the right side of the scales.

I’m writing this piece a couple of months after this event and I still dont know what this little modified go-kart is. I was instantly drawn to it when I saw it given its tiny size and and unusual shape. As you can see from the shot of the rear, it has some form of suspension setup in the rear which wouldn’t be the case with a go-kart. If anyone knows feel free to drop me a DM, just thought it was incredibly cool and quirky!

I wouldn’t normally make a B-line for a covertible of any kind(apart from S15 Varietta) but I’ll make an exception for a decked E36 with clear tails. AVS Model 5s looking great tucked under this thing. Kind of gave me the want to own another touring until I checked the prices of E36 tourings now. Both of these BMWs had Japanese touches to them, which is very much a thumbs up in my book!

These two vehicles are probably the reason I made it out to this event and on reflection, its probably the reason I made it out to any event after this. This 86 is owned by my buddy Vince(@dori_zero) and it was one of the first cars that caught my eye at last years Street Kazoku meet. Vince is an OG here in Ontario and his attituide and outlook to the whole community is truly amazing and he somewhat embodies the Japanese car community here.

He also exceptional taste in 86s and his car is dotted with some Irish touches courtesy of parts sourced from Flos.

I’ve been fortunate to meet many car heads here and few of them are as informed and passionate about merchandise and memorabilia as Vincent who owns this wonderful little Kei truck. He runs Kaizo Supply, a mecca for trinkets such as Choro-Q, scale models, new old stock and unique JDM merchandise. I’d highly suggest taking a look at his site and purchasing something. I was fortunate to acquire some pieces from him including a 1996 Honda Racing bandana commemorating the IndyCar, Solar car and JTCC championships claimed by Honda that year. It will take up a nice home on the interior of my EK4 SiR when I return home later this year.

Be sure to check out the video from this sick event.
